Abstract
The paper reviews studies on thermal comfort in rooms equipped with decentralised ventilation systems providing alternating air supply and exhaust. The analysis covers cycle duration, supply airflow rate and temperature, heat recovery, unit arrangement and external conditions. The results show that nominal airflow rate and declared heat recovery efficiency are insufficient to assess system performance. Supply-air temperature variations, jet velocity, distance from the unit and pressure differences across the external wall are also important. Higher airflow may improve indoor air quality while increasing the risk of draught. The reviewed literature does not include comparative studies on unit location and installation height conducted under identical conditions.
