Abstract
This article presents a review of methods for optimizing energy consumption in buildings at the design and operation stages. The approaches discussed include rule-based methods, mathematical and simulation models, metaheuristic algorithms, model predictive control, as well as solutions based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Multi-objective optimization and hybrid approaches are also considered. The methods and approaches are compared in terms of their scope of application, data and model requirements, computational complexity, real-time operation capabilities, and the ability to consider multiple objective functions. The review indicates that the choice of method depends on the nature of the problem, data availability, and the possibility of integration with building automation systems. The main implementation barriers and directions for further development are also identified.
